Host Families Needed for International Students

Host family applications for 4-H families who wish to host exchange students from Costa Rica, Argentina, and
Norway are due no later than JANUARY 31, 2011, sooner if at all possible.  The host family application, references
nd disclosure forms must be turned in to Carolyn Langley by January 31.  All applications should be signed by an
extension staff member.  In addition, all in-home interviews (which are conducted in the potential family's home by
an Extension staff member) should be completed no later than by February 11 in order for the family to be considered
as a host family.  Please understand that no family is guaranteed a student placement. There are only a few students
from each of these Countries coming to the United States this summer so they will be placed with families who provide
the best match.  Consideration will be given to families whose application arrives first, if there are many eligible families.
The States'4-H International Exchange (National) staff make the placements.
Please remember that all inbound month long students are required to stay with families that have a host sibling of the same gender, within 2 years of the same age, and have similar interests. Students from these countries tend to be older than the Japanese students that we host. The ages of the students coming are 15 to 19 years old. All of these programs require that families be willing to engage the youth in 4-H activities while they are in America.  Below are the program dates for each County.
Costa Rica:   Arrival in US: Sunday, June 19, 2011. Return, Saturday, July 16
Norway:   Arrival in US: Wednesday, June 279 2011. Return, Wednesday, July 27
Argentina:   Arrival in US: Wednesday, June 279 2011. Return, Wednesday, July 27
Applications, reference forms, disclosure forms and supplemental data sheets may be found by going to the Randolph County Cooperative Extension web site and clicking on the NC 4-H International Exchange link at the top of the page., then clicking on forms.  The direct link to the site is as follows: http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/randolph/4hprogram/exchange/index.php Please note that all families must provide three non-family references and adults ages 18 and older living in the home must be criminally background checked.
