Youth Enjoy a Day of Discovery

Youth Enjoy a Day of Discovery

Hertford County youth enjoyed a day of discovery with 4-H on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2010.  This special day of discovery was planned for youth ages 5-8 years old to introduce them to the Hertford County 4-H Program.  Cloverbud Discovery Day participants included Stephan Shearin, Lindsay Williams, Alice Williams, Cannon Frye, Jace Frye, Catie Wise, Jacob Sellers, Samuel Sellers and Wynter Taylor.  These 4-Her’s enjoyed a fun-filled day of activities!  During the day camp the children learned about the food guide pyramid, eating healthy and getting exercise.  The youth participated in the Cloverbud Olympics and other games which gave them the opportunity to get their daily exercise during the camp.  The campers learned about their environment by taking a hike to the park, participating in a nature scavenger hunt and playing tree bingo.  Youth also learned about owls through dissecting owl pellets to find out what the owl had eaten.  To celebrate Veteran’s Day the participants were taught about this special holiday and why it is so important to recognize our veterans.  The youth enjoyed a story about thankfulness and created Thankfulness Trees to take home with them as they celebrate Thanksgiving.  Do you think that your child would enjoy a fun day of hands-on learning?  Educational opportunities provided through the Hertford County 4-H program are open to all area youth ages 5-19 years old.  More educational programs will be hosted throughout the year so please contact Sherry Channell at the Hertford County Extension Office at (252) 358-7822 or by email at sherry_channell@ncsu.edu to find out more!  You can also check us out online at http://hertford.ces.ncsu.edu and follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/HertfordNCCES.
